On October 15, 2023, the 2024 Cross-Strait Traditional Chinese Culture and Modernization Exchange Program officially kicked off in Beijing. That evening, Cai Dafeng, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), met with members of the visiting delegation, accompanied by Gao Youdong, Vice Chairman of the DPP.

During the meeting, Cai extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the DPP and the Ye Shengtao Research Society. He provided a brief overview of the DPP’s developmental history, its current organizational status, and its role as a participating party in the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. He emphasized that promoting national reunification, firmly opposing and curbing “Taiwan independence,” and advancing peaceful development of cross-strait relations are fundamental tasks outlined in the DPP’s constitution and are central to the party’s enduring efforts.

Cai also underscored the importance of embracing national interests while aligning with prevailing trends and public sentiment as the Chinese nation moves toward modernization and great rejuvenation. He called on participants to seize the opportunity presented by the exchange program to foster interaction and collaboration between youth on both sides of the strait, enhancing mutual trust, support, and development, ultimately benefiting the people and creating a shared future.

In his remarks, Gao Youdong highlighted the deep ties between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, noting that physical distance could never diminish their familial bonds. He expressed optimism that this event would not only deepen understanding and friendship between both sides but also enhance cultural consensus and create more collaborative opportunities.

Representatives from the exchange delegation shared their experiences during the meeting, expressing gratitude for the meticulous organization and warm hospitality from the hosts. They voiced a desire to use cultural exchange as a gateway to broaden interactions and strengthen communication, ultimately promoting peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

This exchange program is organized by the DPP’s Central Liaison Committee, co-organized by the Ye Shengtao Research Society, and hosted by the DPP’s Gansu Provincial Committee and the Dunhuang Research Institute. It will take place from October 15 to 19 in Beijing and Gansu.
