FG Approves Kogi’s Bid to Build International Airport in Zariagi

The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has officially approved the Kogi State Government’s proposal to build an International Airport in Zariagi.

During an interview, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, shared that the approval was communicated in a letter from the Federal Ministry dated October 9. He emphasized that the administration led by Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo is dedicated to completing this project on time while strictly adhering to regulatory standards. According to him, an airport in Kogi State will not only serve the needs of Kogi but also provide services to ten neighboring states, alleviating congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road and easing the burden on Abuja’s International Airport.

“Establishing an International Airport is a top priority for the Ododo administration,” Fanwo stated. “We aim to position Kogi State as an aviation hub, leveraging its strategic location as the heart of the nation to tap into the aviation service market.”

He further highlighted that this project is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, create jobs, and enhance the state’s visibility on a global scale.

“The Governor is committed to recruiting top industry talent to ensure the project’s success,” he noted. “As you know, the aviation industry relies heavily on trust and adherence to high standards.”

Fanwo expressed gratitude towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for their support and for granting this historic approval, which he believes will contribute significantly to the development of Kogi State. He also mentioned that the airport will have cargo capacity, marking it as a key focus of the project.

He assured the residents of Kogi State that the administration of Alh. Usman Ododo remains committed to executing ambitious projects that will build on the achievements of the past eight years.

Zariagi is a strategically located community that already features an airstrip, and the visiting team from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development expressed satisfaction with both the location and the Kogi State Government’s plans for the airport.
