2024 National Disabled Curling Championship held in Beijing

In an exclusive interview, we delve into the recently held 2024 National Para Ice Curling Championship in Beijing, where seven teams, including the Hong Kong team, took part in this remarkable event.

The championship ran from October 10 to 19, 2024, hosted at the China Sports Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities. A total of 92 athletes from teams representing Beijing, Hebei, Liaoning, Guangdong, and Hong Kong showcased their skills. Notably, this marked the debut of the Hong Kong team in a national competition for winter para sports. The event featured five categories: wheelchair four-person teams, wheelchair mixed doubles, men’s and women’s hearing-impaired teams, and a mixed doubles category for hearing-impaired athletes.

The Chinese wheelchair curling team has a storied legacy in para sports. They made history at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics by winning China’s first-ever gold medal in winter Paralympic history. In a triumphant follow-up, they successfully defended their title at the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics and celebrated a three-peat victory at the 2023 World Wheelchair Curling Championship.

A representative from the China Sports Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities expressed hopes that this championship would foster communication among teams and build a solid talent pool in preparation for the 2026 Milan Winter Paralympics and the next Winter Deaf Olympics.

The event was organized by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and coordinated by the China Sports Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities.
