40 countries unanimously condemned the increase in the number of injured UN peacekeepers in Lebanon to 5
On October 12th, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that its personnel were stationed at a watchtower along the Lebanon-Israel border. In response to recent attacks on peacekeeping soldiers, representatives from 40 countries contributing troops to UNIFIL, including the UK, France, India, Germany, and Spain, issued a joint statement strongly condemning these incidents. As a result, the number of injured has risen to five, following an injury reported on October 11th from southern Lebanon.
The Polish delegation at the United Nations expressed concern through a statement on X, calling for an immediate halt to such actions and demanding a thorough investigation. They urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect UNIFIL’s presence and fulfill their obligation to ensure the safety of its personnel.
UNIFIL’s reports indicated that on October 10th, Israeli tanks shelled a watchtower in Naqoura, leading to its collapse and injuring two individuals. Additionally, on October 11th, UNIFIL confirmed that another two people were hurt due to explosions near the tower.
Further escalating the situation, a UN peacekeeper was shot and injured near the Naqoura headquarters on October 11th due to nearby military activities, according to a statement released by UNIFIL on October 12th.
