Russia says it shot down 125 Ukrainian drones, debris caused fire
On September 29, the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine endured multiple attacks from Russian forces, leading to widespread destruction and fires affecting several residential buildings. According to the Ukrainian military administration in Zaporizhzhia, at least six people sustained injuries during these assaults. Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that on September 28, Russian military drones targeted a healthcare facility in the border city of Sumy, resulting in eight deaths, eleven injuries, and the evacuation of over 113 patients.
In a statement released today, the Russian Defense Ministry asserted that their air defense systems successfully intercepted and shot down 125 Ukrainian drones attempting to enter Russian airspace overnight. A post on their Telegram channel revealed that 67 of these drones were downed over Volgograd Oblast, where Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed that while wreckage caused fires in grasslands, there were no casualties or significant damage reported.
The Ministry further noted that 17 drones were shot down over the Belgorod and Voronezh regions. Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev mentioned that some of the destroyed drones fell in urban areas, resulting in fires in two residential buildings; however, no injuries were reported. Additionally, 18 drones were intercepted over Rostov, with Governor Vasily Golubev assuring that there were no casualties or damage on the ground based on operational intelligence.
Moreover, the Russian Defense Ministry indicated that one drone was intercepted in each of the Bryansk, Kursk, and Krasnodar regions, along with three drones downed over the Sea of Azov.
