Nearly ten thousand people participated in the 10th Mountaineering Event of Guangdong Province (Yangshan) in 2024

On October 13, the 10th Annual Mountaineering Event in Guangdong (Yangshan) took place, attracting nearly 10,000 participants from across the country. This event featured a hiking tour of Xianling Mountain and the Guangdong First Peak, allowing enthusiasts and local residents to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Yangshan and its rich cultural heritage rooted in the teachings of Han Yu.

Deng Fei, the Secretary of the Yangshan County Committee, spoke about the county’s long history of over 2,200 years, highlighting that the renowned Tang dynasty scholar Han Yu once served as the magistrate of Yangshan more than 1,220 years ago. “Yangshan boasts abundant natural resources and a beautiful ecological environment,” he noted, mentioning key attractions like Lingnan National Park and Xianling Mountain Forest Park, as well as several national A-level tourist sites.

The Xianling Mountain Forest Park, which is recognized as a provincial forest park, is rich in green ecological resources and is the heart of Han Yu’s cultural legacy. The park encompasses distinctive features like Xianling Mountain and Xianling Lake, both named in honor of Han Yu’s deep love for the people. Major points of interest on the mountain include the Hanwen Memorial Study Area, Chaoyang Cave, Qianyan Rock, Youxi Cave, Water Curtain Cave, cliff carvings, the Han Yu Memorial Museum, and Beishan Ancient Temple. Notably, Han Yu’s calligraphy is a rare treasure, with only four known remaining pieces in the country; three of them can be found at Xianling Mountain.

Local resident Ms. Li, who participated in the hike, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Hiking in the autumn is beneficial for both mental and physical health. This event is unique and has a high level of community participation, so I brought my daughter along.” She emphasized the dual benefit of physical exercise while also allowing her daughter to absorb and appreciate the rich Han Yu culture of Yangshan, deepening her love for their hometown.
