Beijing Dance Academy’s 70th anniversary special performance will feature celebrity dancers such as Huang Doudou and Meng Qingyang
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Beijing Dance Academy, and the institution is set to celebrate with a special performance titled “Dance Towards the Pinnacle: Dancing for the People, Contributing to the Times.” Scheduled for October 19-20 at the National Grand Theatre, this event will showcase a variety of dance styles, highlighting the achievements of the academy over the past seven decades.
In an exclusive interview, Chen Weiya, the overall director of the event, elaborated on the production’s theme. “The special performance brings together the elite from various departments of the Beijing Dance Academy, with 186 faculty members involved in the creative process. The total number of participants exceeds 1,168, making this a grand presentation,” he said.
The lineup will include numerous renowned dancers, with young faculty members and performers from the Beijing Dance Academy Youth Dance Troupe, such as Wang Zihan, Hua Xiaoyi, Ma Jiaolong, Su Hailu, Guo Ge, and Lü Kedi. Noteworthy alumni, including Huang Dou Dou, Shan Chong, Yin Shuo, Hu Yang, and Meng Qingyang, have also volunteered their time and talents for both the creative and performance aspects of the event. Additionally, young composer Yang Fan leads a talented music team that has worked closely with the academy, while acclaimed musical theatre alumnus Ayunga has composed a theme song titled “Mother” specifically for this occasion.
Batu, the Party Secretary of the Beijing Dance Academy, emphasized that this celebration not only showcases the institution’s successful training programs over the past 70 years but also reflects its commitment to pioneering artistic works within the national dance scene. “This event expresses our ongoing exploration of educational values in talent development, the unique representations of dance, and our pursuit of deeper understanding within the dance realm,” he shared.
Chen Weiya further described the performance as drawing inspiration from the rich history and cultural heritage of the Beijing Dance Academy. “This will be a ‘full dance, full professional, and full star’ gala,” he explained. “The program encompasses various styles including Chinese classical dance, ethnic and folk dances, ballet, ballroom dancing, and musical theatre. We have meticulously planned every second of this show, ensuring that we present the essence of 70 years of the Beijing Dance Academy.”
