Chinese Ambassador to Canada Wang Di- China is working with Canada to speed up the implementation of the consensus reached by the two foreign ministers
On the evening of September 25, the Chinese Embassy in Canada hosted a reception in Ottawa to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. During his speech, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Wang Di, emphasized the notable progress in bilateral relations following the successful visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly to China in July. Ambassador Wang remarked that during her visit, he and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, established several agreements designed to enhance practical exchanges and cooperation across various sectors. He highlighted that China is currently working closely with Canada to implement these agreements and foster strong collaboration.
Reflecting on the remarkable advancements made over the past 75 years, Ambassador Wang noted that the Communist Party of China has steered the nation along a modernization path tailored to its unique circumstances. He underscored the impressive economic growth and enduring social stability that China has experienced, which marks a significant evolution from strength to prosperity and power. Wang asserted that China’s modernization serves as a contributor to global peace and international justice and reiterated the country’s commitment to fostering a balanced and orderly multipolar world, alongside inclusive economic globalization. He emphasized China’s desire to provide wisdom and support to the global community in its quest for peace and development, particularly extending new opportunities to developing nations, including Canada.
When addressing China-Canada relations, Wang expressed gratitude for the steadfast support from Canadian friends who have upheld the principles of friendship, even during difficult times. “It warms my heart to see so many devoted friends of China-Canada relations gathered here to celebrate our 75th anniversary,” he said, reflecting on how this sense of community inspires confidence and courage in overcoming future challenges. He anticipates continued support moving forward.
Wang also reminisced about the inspiring image of Canadian and Chinese athletes arriving together for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. He reiterated China’s enthusiasm for collaboration with Canada, emphasizing a commitment to prioritizing the interests of both nations’ citizens and promoting global peace and development through positive, pragmatic, and constructive exchanges. Wang underlined the importance of nurturing a healthy, stable, and thriving relationship as both nations prepare to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership next year.
The reception welcomed around 500 guests, including representatives from Canadian politics, various organizations, diplomatic missions, as well as members of the Chinese community and students. Former Canadian Senator Hu Zixiu made a commitment to continue fostering strong bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across multiple fields.
The event showcased a video highlighting China’s achievements over the past 75 years, its diplomatic principles, and a retrospective on the development of China-Canada relations. Attendees also enjoyed a thematic photo exhibition celebrating the anniversary, cultural displays, and performances of traditional Chinese music, Xinjiang dance, and Sichuan Opera face-changing, presented by local Chinese artistic groups and students.
