Anti-epidemic Chinese medicine Qingfei Paidu Decoction effectively improves lung function

In recent months, we’ve seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases worldwide, defying seasonal trends. During the Olympics, for example, at least 40 athletes tested positive for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. This rise in respiratory virus infections during summer in the Northern Hemisphere is quite unusual since these viruses typically flourish in colder weather.

To shed light on this, I spoke with Dr. Lin Bo-li from Shun An Tang Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Flushing. He shared insights about “Qing Fei Pai Du Tang,” a famous herbal remedy that traces its origins back to “Shang Han Za Bing Lun,” a classic text by Zhang Zhongjing from the Han Dynasty. Dr. Lin explained that this formula was specifically designed to combat external febrile diseases caused by cold pathogens.

He also mentioned that in Taiwan, the well-respected Shun Tian Tang has created “Qing Fei San,” which offers similar benefits to “Qing Fei Pai Du Tang.” This herbal blend is reputed to boost lung function and relieve fatigue. Its ingredients include ginseng, mai dong, and schisandra, combined with a formulation from the Er Chen Tang, which contains fu ling, ban xia, and chen pi, along with additional herbs such as chai hu, huang qin, sheng ma, and yi yi ren.

What distinguishes Shun Tian Tang’s “Qing Fei San” as a scientific herbal medicine is its concentrated formulation, which undergoes a thorough boiling process. This method effectively removes pesticide residues and toxins, including harmful alkaloids, ensuring that any heavy metals are left in the residue and do not compromise the final product. The resulting concentrated herbal powder is carefully extracted to provide a safe and effective remedy.
