CDS Musa Lauds Omoluwabi Golfers, Charges Nigerians on Unity

During a recent gathering at the Golf and Health Signature in Abuja, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Christopher Musa took the opportunity to commend the Omoluwabi Golfers Forum, led by former Captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Prof. Bola Afolabi. He highlighted their commendable efforts to leverage golf as a means of building friendships, instilling societal values, and supporting governmental initiatives aimed at creating a stronger nation.

General Musa stressed the necessity of unity, peace, and solidarity among Nigerians, particularly in light of the challenges currently facing the country. “We’re going through tough times as a nation,” he said. “Great nations encounter challenges, but it’s about how we navigate these hurdles.”

He also expressed his concerns about external forces attempting to create division within Nigeria. However, he reinforced the idea that organizations like the Omoluwabi Golfers Forum are instrumental in combating these divisive influences. “Groups like this make it nearly impossible for them to succeed. So let’s encourage each other to remain steadfast in our commitment,” he urged.

Musa characterized golf as a vital unifying force, acknowledging not only its health benefits but also its unique ability to foster meaningful interactions and the sharing of ideas. He praised Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), for establishing a facility that enhances entertainment, health, recreation, and national unity.

In response, Runsewe underlined the mission of the golfing community to elevate the sport through friendship, networking, and unity, which he views as essential for Nigeria at this juncture. “Golf is more than just a game; it brings people together, regardless of their ethnic background, religion, or personal interests,” he asserted. “Omoluwabi has opened a new chapter, creating an environment of camaraderie and friendship while promoting the rich culture of our country.”

Prof. Bola Afolabi, Chairman of the Omoluwabi Golfers Forum, echoed these sentiments, describing golf as a sport that imparts values of integrity, unity, and business savvy. He emphasized the platform it provides for members to connect and engage in important conversations, with the aim of contributing to national discourse and addressing societal issues. “We aim to raise awareness that security is a collective responsibility and encourage active participation in enhancing our nation,” he concluded. “That’s why we invited the CDS to share insights on our role in aiding the government in building a safer country.”
