Cold air is coming! Strong winds are expected to cool many places in Inner Mongolia, and temperatures in some areas may drop below freezing
According to China Weather Network, Inner Mongolia is set to experience strong winds and significant temperature drops over the next three days, from October 9 to 11. Local temperature declines could exceed 8°C, with places like Xilin Gol League reporting lows that may even drop below freezing. Frost is also expected in the northeastern regions.
From 8 AM on October 8 to 8 AM on October 9, areas like Ordos, Xingan League, and Hohhot saw rainfall, primarily light rain, with some regions experiencing moderate rain. For instance, the Kerengetu area in Ordos received 12.4 mm of precipitation, while Ulan Shabatai in Wushen Banner recorded 11.7 mm.
Today, with the influence of cold air, Inner Mongolia will face widespread strong winds, temperature drops, and rain or snow. As of 2:40 PM, there were 33 active wind warning signals across the region. Additionally, light rain or rain mixed with snow is expected in the southern parts of Ulan Chabu City, southern and eastern Xilingol League, western and northern Chifeng City, much of Tongliao City, Xingan League, and most of Hulunbuir City. In contrast, the eastern parts of Hulunbuir may experience moderate rain or rain mixed with snow. Temperatures are anticipated to drop by 4°C to 6°C in the eastern and northeastern regions.
Locally, some areas, such as Jiuying District in Ulan Chabu and Xilin Hot City, are projected to see temperatures dip below freezing under the influence of this cold air.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, the northeastern part of Inner Mongolia will be mostly cloudy, with light snow or rain mixed with snow expected in the central and northern areas of Hulunbuir. Other regions will see a mixture of sun and clouds. The northwest and northeast winds in the western and central regions are forecasted to reach levels of 4 to 5, occasionally hitting 6 to 7. Temperatures are likely to decrease by 4°C to 6°C in the eastern areas, with some spots experiencing drops of 6°C to 8°C, and frost conditions anticipated in the northeastern regions.
On the following day, most of Inner Mongolia will predominantly see clear or partly cloudy skies. Northerly winds of 4 to 5, briefly reaching 6 in the northeastern areas. Central and northeastern regions may witness temperature declines of 4°C to 6°C, with some areas dropping 6°C to 8°C. Frost conditions are likely in these parts as well.
China Weather Network advises the public to secure doors and windows, reinforce unstable structures like fences and billboards, and properly store outdoor items that could be impacted by the wind. Pedestrians are encouraged to avoid riding bicycles during windy conditions and to stay clear of advertising billboards and temporary structures for safety reasons.
