Corn in the north and rice in the south, the fields are full of abundance.
As the golden rice in the fields signals the autumn harvest, October showcases a vibrant tapestry of bountiful crops across expansive farmlands. In the north, farmers are harvesting corn, while in the south, rice is being gathered. Additionally, various grains and fruits are reaching maturity, leading to a bustling atmosphere in agricultural areas.
In Tieling, Liaoning, a key grain production base in China and one of the country’s primary agricultural provinces, rice has entered its harvest season. This year, the province has cultivated over 7.5 million acres of rice, making it the second largest grain crop after corn.
Shifting to Fujian’s Yanping District, we find local farmers seizing the favorable weather to ensure a successful rice harvest. In Xiayang Town, thick fields of rice are bending under the weight of ripe grains, while harvesters move efficiently through the rows. Despite high temperatures affecting the rice ear formation this year, local agricultural technicians report that careful field management has kept yields comparable to previous years.
In response to the challenges farmers face, Yanping District has implemented policies to support the development of seed enterprises and encourage mechanized planting of rice. These initiatives aim to boost farmers’ enthusiasm for planting, which is reflected in the projection of a grain planting area reaching nearly 15,000 acres and an expected total output of over 58,600 tons. So far, the district has harvested 26,600 tons of mid to late-season rice.
Moving to Hebi in Henan Province, it’s now a crucial time for winter wheat sowing. The city has embraced new technologies and machinery to enhance planting quality and improve uniformity as they aim for a successful yield next year. Currently, they’ve sown 1.154 million acres of winter wheat, completing over 80% of the planned area.
At the 5G digital agriculture demonstration site in Qixian, a state-of-the-art planting machine equipped with a Beidou navigation system is seen efficiently sowing seeds, guided by technicians instructing operators on the width of rows for planting. With over 3,200 acres of wheat critically nearing completion, the advance in technology is visibly notable.
In Dongying, Shandong, formerly barren saline-alkali land has been transformed into fertile fields, yielding a significant 6,000 acres of autumn crops ready for harvest. In Niuzhuang Town, the striking green corn and “golden” soybeans show off a successful transition from wasteland to productive farmland, enlivened by machines working diligently to bring in their harvest.
Lastly, in Youyang, Chongqing, the fruitful season for pomelos has arrived, with over 15,000 acres bearing ripe fruits. In Dongkou Village, the pomelo orchards are lush with branches bending under the weight of fruit, as workers bustle about harvesting and packing the bountiful yield. Taking advantage of its favorable climate, Youyang has cultivated a robust fruit production industry, with an annual output exceeding 20,000 tons, generating significant economic value.
This harvest season illustrates a relentless spirit of agricultural innovation and resilience across various regions, laying the groundwork for a prosperous future.
