Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, conducted a research trip to the Xinjiang regions of Hotan and Kashgar from October 21 to 24. During this visit, he emphasized the importance of adhering to Xi Jinping’s thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He stressed the need to implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee and to fully embrace the Party’s strategies for governing Xinjiang in the new era. He underlined the necessity of strengthening awareness of the Chinese national community and enhancing the development of a beautiful Xinjiang within the context of China’s modernization process.

During his visit, Wang toured the Hotan People’s Hospital, the 12th Primary School in Hotan City, and Taizihong Village in Shule County, where he focused on researching the efforts toward ethnic solidarity. He engaged in discussions with medical teams from Xinjiang, teachers, students, and visited the homes of ethnic minority families. He remarked on the need to integrate ethnic unity into grassroots governance, school education, and the daily lives of the populace, emphasizing the importance of instilling a sense of Chinese national community in children to promote unity akin to pomegranate seeds.

In the Kun’gang Economic and Technological Development Zone and various enterprises in Hotan, he highlighted the need to build a modern industrial system characterized by the unique advantages of southern Xinjiang. He advocated for nurturing enterprises with extensive industrial chains and strong driving capabilities, which would enhance people’s livelihoods and invigorate local development. When visiting the Business Service Center of the China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in Kashgar and the Central Asia International Trade Market, he expressed that Xinjiang must carve out a distinctive path for opening up, establishing itself as a key bridgehead for China’s westward expansion.

At Xinjiang Hotan University, the Xinjiang University of Technology (in preparation), and the new Qian campus of Kashgar University, he stated that it is crucial to improve higher education in Xinjiang, particularly in the southern region, to cultivate more high-quality talent. He also visited the ruins of the Rewaq Buddha Temple in Luopu County and the Kashgar Urban Planning Museum, where he sought insights into the protection and utilization of historical relics and the planning and construction of cultural and sports facilities in urban areas.

Throughout his research, Wang noted that the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regional Committee has been effectively implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches regarding Xinjiang work, resulting in a stable social environment and a better living situation for the people. Wang insisted that maintaining social stability should be the top priority in Xinjiang, continuing to foster a stable social landscape. He called for solid efforts in ethnic and religious affairs, encouraging cultural enhancement to forge a sense of community among all ethnic groups and a deeper recognition of the five identities.

He advocated for Xinjiang to embark on a path of high-quality development, ensuring a solid material foundation for enduring social stability and peace. Additionally, he encouraged the promotion of the spirit of the production and construction corps, aiming for enhanced integration between the corps and surrounding areas to develop new advantages for stability and border defense in the new era.

Wang also visited the working committees of the People’s Political Consultative Conference in Hotan and Kashgar, as well as the local committee in Moyu County, where he interacted with committee members and administrative staff. He urged them to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches during the 75th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, stressing the need to fully and accurately perform the Party’s governing strategies for Xinjiang. He called for improved capabilities in political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in governance to gather consensus and consolidate efforts toward achieving the overarching goals of Xinjiang work.
