Experts and scholars discuss modernization and innovative development of Chinese language
On October 23, in Beijing, a reporter learned from Beijing Language and Culture University that the 15th Academic Symposium of the Chinese Language Modernization Society recently took place at Ningxia University. The conference reflected on the development trajectory and historical achievements of Chinese language modernization while also envisioning innovative advancements for the new era.
Yao Xishuang, President of the Chinese Language Modernization Society, emphasized that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, China’s language and character initiatives have achieved comprehensive high-quality development. The national standard language has been widely adopted across the country, realizing the long-held dream of a unified written and spoken language for the Chinese nation. Furthermore, the international influence of Chinese language and characters is accelerating. These language initiatives contribute significantly to rural revitalization, promote cultural confidence, support technological autonomy, and integrate into the construction of a strong educational nation, playing an irreplaceable role in fostering a sense of shared national identity and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Zhou Daojuan, a senior inspector from the Ministry of Education’s Language and Character Application Management Division, congratulated the Chinese Language Modernization Society on its 30th anniversary, acknowledging its vital role in supporting and advancing the national language reform and development. She urged the society to enhance its political awareness, strengthen reform initiatives to improve its service effectiveness, and focus on internal development to further contribute to national progress and the revival of the Chinese nation through language.
The symposium featured 14 keynote presentations and 10 breakout sessions, where participants engaged in in-depth discussions around themes such as the trajectory and historical achievements of Chinese language modernization, its role in supporting China’s unique modernization, the promotion of the national common language in the new era, as well as issues surrounding the modernization of language and character technology in light of the new technological revolution and industrial transformation.
The Chinese Language Modernization Society was founded in 1994. This academic symposium was organized by the society, with Ningxia University and Beijing Language and Culture University as co-hosts, bringing together over 200 experts and scholars from 93 universities and related institutions, including Beijing Language and Culture University and Communication University of China.
