Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin and Zhou Kai advance to the top 8 of the men’s team at the 2024 National Table Tennis Championships

On October 17, the 2024 National Table Tennis Championships kicked off in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, featuring the men’s team quarterfinals. The Shanghai Real Estate Group team, comprised of Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, and Zhou Kai, triumphed over Jilin Galaxy with a convincing 3-0 victory, securing their spot in the top eight.

In the first match of the doubles, veteran Xu Xin made a notable return after announcing his withdrawal from the singles competition just days prior. Teaming up with Zhou Kai, they dominated the Jilin players Yin Jiaxu and Fan Shengpeng, winning decisively with a score of 3-0.

The second singles match showcased an intense showdown between Fan Zhendong and Liu Jialiang. This was Fan’s first competition since the Paris Olympics, and he faced significant challenges as Liu fought hard, keeping the score tight for much of the match. However, leveraging his extensive experience in high-stakes games, Fan ultimately secured a 3-0 victory.

Zhou Kai rounded out the team’s success with another 3-0 win in the third singles match against Fan Shengpeng.

After the match, Xu Xin spoke to the media about their journey to the quarterfinals, noting that everything went “overall smoothly.”
