Fujian prepares for Typhoon Trami- Fishing boats entering Hong Kong disembark and two -small three links- passenger routes are suspended

As Typhoon “Tammy” approaches, the coastal region of Fujian is on high alert, implementing the Level IV emergency response to combat the impending storm.

At 5:19 PM on October 22, the Fujian Meteorological Bureau reported that the typhoon’s center was roughly 600 kilometers east of Manila, Philippines, with maximum sustained winds reaching 8 levels on the scale (18 meters per second, equivalent to a tropical storm). The typhoon is expected to move northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying. From tonight through daytime on the 23rd, the coastal areas of Fujian, alongside the Min Central, Min South, and western fishing grounds, could see wind speeds reach levels 7 to 9, with gusts between 9 and 11 levels.

The combined effects of cold air and Typhoon “Tammy” are predicted to create massive waves over 5.5 meters in most fishing grounds except for those outside the Min area, while coastal areas from Fuzhou to Zhangzhou may experience 4.5-meter high waves.

The Fujian Flood Control Office has instructed all fishing vessels in the Min Central, Min South, and Taiwan Banks fishing grounds to return to port by 5 PM on October 22 to seek refuge from the storm. Fishing boats in Min Eastern, external Min fishing grounds, and waters around Diaoyu Island must also return to port by 5 PM on October 23. Additionally, non-essential personnel on coastal fish farms are to evacuate to the shore by 5 PM on October 22, while essential labor will need to leave by 5 PM on October 23.

The Fujian Maritime Safety Administration has activated its Level IV typhoon response, monitoring the typhoon closely, enhancing warnings and controls, and advising passing ships to steer clear of affected waters. They are intensifying on-site patrols to assess risks, ensuring that passenger vessels, hazardous materials ships, and construction projects at sea adhere to all necessary typhoon precautions.

Furthermore, the Fujian transportation authorities have announced that the “Little Three Links” passenger ferry routes between Lianjiang Huangqi to Matsu and Mawei to Matsu will suspend operations in both directions starting October 23.
