Irvine ranks as the safest city in the state, Los Angeles ranks last

As American families consider relocating to a new city, they carefully weigh various factors such as schools, transportation options, and recreational amenities. A recent study by personal finance company WalletHub emphasizes that safety is a critical aspect of this decision-making process. Their research identifies Irvine as the safest city in California, situated in Southern California, while San Bernardino ranks as the least safe city in the same region.

WalletHub’s study assessed a wide range of safety concerns, including public health crises, natural disasters, mass shootings, and traffic accidents. It also evaluated financial safety by considering issues like inflation, high mortgage stress, lack of health insurance, and identity theft. Over 180 cities across the United States were analyzed using 41 safety indicators to establish the rankings. While Irvine is celebrated as California’s safest city, it ranks 11th nationwide, highlighting a positive safety environment, albeit just outside the top ten. In stark contrast, Los Angeles and San Bernardino, the two least safe cities in California, sit at 162nd and 173rd on the national scale, respectively.

According to the report, the top ten safest cities in Southern California are as follows: Irvine, Chula Vista (23rd nationally), Glendale (25th), Santa Clarita (29th), Garden Grove (35th), Huntington Beach (36th), Oceanside (37th), San Diego (43rd), Rancho Cucamonga (48th), and Oxnard (49th).
