Jointly write a new chapter of high-quality development of -Greater BRICS Cooperation-

During the 16th BRICS Summit on October 23, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech that resonated with international audiences, outlining his vision for the future of BRICS cooperation with five key suggestions. He emphasized China’s willingness to work with other BRICS nations to forge a new era of high-quality development in collaboration with more countries from the Global South, aiming to build a community with a shared future for humanity.

In interviews with our reporter, international experts expressed that President Xi’s remarks align with the current global trends and expectations. His speech not only provides direction for the future of the BRICS cooperation mechanism but also leads the way toward high-quality development. It sends a strong signal of unity, cooperation, and collective growth. Continuous strategic cooperation among BRICS nations in various fields is expected to make significant contributions to global peace, stability, and development.

“Opening up broader prospects for BRICS cooperation” is essential, according to President Xi. He urged participants to seize the momentum of the summit by addressing overarching strategic issues collectively, reinforcing the commitment to mutual progress among BRICS countries. His five proposals call for the establishment of a “Peace BRICS,” “Innovation BRICS,” “Green BRICS,” “Fair BRICS,” and “Cultural BRICS.”

Oleg Timofeev, an associate professor at the People’s Friendship University of Russia, noted, “As President Xi quoted, ‘A gentleman benefits by aligning with what is righteous.’ This reflects the spirit of BRICS.” He emphasized that BRICS nations are partners on the road to development and revitalization. Amidst global economic sluggishness and increasing instability, Timofeev urged BRICS countries to strengthen political trust and strategic collaboration to maintain healthy momentum while deepening “big BRICS cooperation” to safeguard the interests of emerging markets and developing nations.

Balu Demissie, a policy researcher at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, remarked that President Xi’s speech profoundly illustrates the historical significance and far-reaching impact of the BRICS cooperation mechanism. It will enhance unity among BRICS countries by building consensus, confidence, and strength towards a brighter future for the mechanism. Enhanced dialogue, cooperation, and trust among BRICS nations are essential for ensuring long-term stability and mutual development.

Nadia Hilmi, a political science professor at Beni-Suef University in Egypt, asserted that President Xi’s address outlines a new blueprint and infuses fresh energy into “big BRICS cooperation.” The ongoing efforts to develop a “Peace BRICS,” “Innovation BRICS,” “Green BRICS,” “Fair BRICS,” and “Cultural BRICS” will yield impressive results in areas such as international security, technological innovation, green development, and cultural exchange, thereby injecting positive and stabilizing forces into the world.

Najila Azarouni, an expert on international issues in the UAE, highlighted China’s pivotal role as the largest economy among BRICS nations in promoting sustainable development within the cooperation mechanism. She shared President Xi’s announcement of establishing several centers focused on deep-sea resources, special economic zones, industrial capabilities, and digital industry ecosystems within BRICS context. “China’s proactive measures to enhance collaboration across BRICS nations will pave the way for broader prospects of cooperation,” Azarouni stated.

Amidst a new wave of global unrest and transformation, a moment of critical choice has emerged: should we succumb to disorder or work together toward peaceful development? President Xi emphasized that the greater the challenges, the more resolutely we should surge forward, turning BRICS into a platform for unity among the Global South and a driving force in global governance reform.

Sergey Sanakoyev, director of the Asia-Pacific Research Center in Russia, stated, “President Xi’s speech will further consolidate powerful solidarity among the Global South.” He observed that the BRICS cooperation mechanism is demonstrating vigorous vitality and growing clout on the international stage. By deepening collaboration in areas like digital economy, climate change, and green development, BRICS countries can better support Global South nations and contribute to transformative change in global governance.

“The BRICS nations are critical representatives of the Global South,” said Kritan Bahana, president of the South African Institute of International Affairs and editor of the publication “Diplomacy.” He emphasized the importance of BRICS countries reinforcing mutual support and practical cooperation, which will ultimately work toward narrowing development gaps and enhancing the global governance framework.

As the international landscape continues to shift, the need for reform in global governance systems becomes evident. President Xi called for genuine multilateralism and urged the adoption of equity and inclusivity as guiding principles in global governance reform. He acknowledged the rising call from various countries to join the BRICS cooperation mechanism and proposed expanding membership to elevate the representation and say of developing nations in global governance.

Felipe Gayoto, a Brazilian scholar, recognized BRICS as a vital force in promoting international justice and democratizing international relations. With growing global risks and challenges, he emphasized that the ongoing expansion and partnership initiatives will help establish broader relationships and enhance the collaborative processes of multilateral development.

Hilmi stated, “The series of important propositions and initiatives outlined by President Xi will direct the BRICS cooperation mechanism to play a more significant role in international affairs, amplifying the BRICS voice.” In light of growing global instability, “deepening cooperation among BRICS nations will support a more just and equitable development of the global governance system.”

Hamid Vafaee, a professor at Tehran University in Iran, highlighted that enhancing global governance is an essential choice for countries seeking shared development opportunities and addressing global challenges collectively. The BRICS nations are encouraged to strengthen their unity and collaboration in line with evolving global trends. The summit’s decision to invite additional countries as BRICS partners aligns with the goal of implementing genuine multilateralism to foster a fair and equitable international order.

Suthendra Kulkarni, founder of the “New South Asia Forum” and former chairman of the Observer Research Foundation in Mumbai, stressed that BRICS nations aim to create a fair, inclusive, and sustainable environment for global governance reform. This initiative will ensure that development gains benefit a wider array of nations and peoples, enhancing international welfare while uniting more countries committed to peace, equality, and open cooperation.
