Ministry of Emergency Management- The total number of safety incidents nationwide continued to decline in the first three quarters

On October 22, the Ministry of Emergency Management held its quarterly news conference to provide an overview of the national safety production and natural disaster situation in the first three quarters of the year, along with updates on key recent initiatives. Shen Zhanli, the spokesperson for the Ministry and Director of the News and Publicity Department, reported that the overall safety production situation in the country has shown stable improvement during this period.

First, the total number of accidents has continued to decline. In the first three quarters, there were 14,402 various types of production safety accidents nationwide, resulting in 13,412 fatalities. These figures represent year-on-year decreases of 24.5% and 18.4%, respectively. Among the 32 provincial-level statistical units, 30 experienced a “double decrease” in both the number of accidents and deaths. Notably, nine key sectors—including coal mining, metal and non-metal mining, construction, industrial and commercial operations, fireworks, road and railway transport, maritime transport, and air transport—also reported a simultaneous decline in accident counts and fatalities.

Second, there was a significant drop in major and particularly severe accidents, with six such incidents occurring in the first three quarters, resulting in 110 deaths—a year-on-year decrease of 53.8% and 54.5%. While the overall safety production atmosphere remains stable, it’s important to note that certain regions and industries are experiencing typical high-risk incidents. This is particularly evident in sectors such as transportation, fishing vessels, hazardous materials storage and transport, and some emerging risks in the cultural and tourism fields. As we approach the fourth quarter, traditionally a busy season for production and operations, it is crucial to maintain a sense of vigilance and responsibility in ensuring safety measures are robustly implemented.
