Open studio in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Chinese artists move in
The annual art event, “Sunset Park Open Studios,” is currently taking place in Brooklyn and will run until Sunday, October 20th. The event features 26 exhibition spaces that the public can visit for free, offering a unique opportunity to interact with local artists. Over 300 creators are participating, including several notable Asian-American artists.
Initiated by the non-profit organization NARS Foundation, the Sunset Park Open Studios has grown significantly since its inception in 2019, now in its sixth year. This event invites artists from various fields to showcase their work in what has been described as a “new cultural hub” in Brooklyn. It connects artists from around the world with local galleries and encourages a lively exchange of ideas and creative processes through discussions with community residents. Over the course of the three-day event, each gallery and studio will be open to the public for limited hours, featuring immersive exhibitions and live performances.
Several Asian artists are also featured, including Amanda Leung, a Hong Kong immigrant who will be showcasing her paper sculpture at J&M Studio, and visual artist Xingze Li, whose work will be displayed at the dock. Additionally, Frank Yefeng Wang from Shanghai is presenting his solo exhibition “Avatopology” at the NARS Foundation’s venue.
The festivities kicked off today at 11 AM with the opening of Tanya Weddemire Gallery, located at 254 36th Street in Brooklyn. Other exhibition spaces will open from noon until 6 PM, continuing through Sunday, October 20th. The event spans from Bush Terminal Piers Park on the west side of Sunset Park to the section of 5th Avenue between 23rd and 58th Streets.
