Snow leopard enters the kennel, what’s going on-
On October 20, in the Dachaidan area of Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, local residents alerted authorities after discovering what appeared to be a snow leopard in a kennel at a mining company. Concerned for public safety, they requested immediate assistance. Following the report, forest police, along with relevant departments, rushed to the scene.
Video footage captured by bystanders showed the suspected snow leopard pacing inside a wire-fenced enclosure, occasionally clawing at the fence in an attempt to escape.
Upon arrival, the rescue team conducted a thorough observation from a distance and identified the animal as a snow leopard, a nationally protected species. After confirming that the kennel’s enclosure was secure, the team implemented safety measures and successfully captured the snow leopard in a cage. Further examination revealed that, while the animal had no visible injuries, it was in a weakened state likely due to prolonged starvation.
The team then worked together to transport the snow leopard to a temporary facility at the local police station, where they provided food and contacted the Qinghai Wild Animal Rescue and Breeding Center for guidance on caring for the animal.
On the following day, staff from the center arrived in Dachaidan to perform an initial health check on the snow leopard before transferring it to Xining. Currently, the snow leopard is undergoing further health monitoring in Xining.
