The 2024 Chinese Culture Experience Camp for International Students in Guangxi was successfully held
From September 18 to 27, 2024, Nanning in Guangxi hosted the Chinese Culture Experience Camp, specifically designed for international students. Twenty participants hailing from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Pakistan had the opportunity to engage with and appreciate the unique aspects of traditional Chinese culture firsthand.
While in Nanning, the students took lessons in the guzheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument, at Guangxi Overseas Chinese School. They immersed themselves in its distinct melodies. Their cultural journey continued with a visit to the Guangxi Ethnic Museum, where they delved into Zhuang culture, learned about the cultural significance of bronze drums, and experienced the region’s rich cultural diversity. A leisurely walk along the Friendship Corridor at Qingxiu Mountain allowed them to appreciate an exhibition of photographs showcasing the daily lives, customs, and even architectural styles of various ethnic groups in Guangxi, alongside representations from other ASEAN countries. This experience not only deepened their understanding of local culture but also fostered camaraderie among the participants.
Their adventure extended to Beijing, where they marveled at the grandeur of Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall at Juyong Pass, feeling the historical resonance of China’s ancient capital. At iconic sites like the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace, they gained a profound appreciation for China’s rich cultural heritage. Additionally, they were struck by the modern skyline featuring landmarks like the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube, emblematic of the world’s first “Double Olympic City.” While exploring the historic alleys of Beijing, they engaged with traditional Peking opera, learned skills in face painting and paper-cutting, and even tried their hands at crafting Chinese knots, all while absorbing the allure of China’s storied traditions.
One participant, Hong Yanyun from Guangxi Overseas Chinese School, expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I’ve been fascinated by the brilliance of Chinese culture since childhood. I’m incredibly grateful for this experience camp that allowed my friends and me to dive deep into China’s cultural richness and history at places like the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square.”
Reflecting on her time at the camp, she added, “This truly stands out as one of the most unforgettable and cherished experiences of my life. I plan to share everything I’ve learned with my family and friends, acting as a bridge for cultural exchange between China and other nations.”
The camp aimed to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment for international students by showcasing the richness of Chinese traditional culture through diverse activities. It served as a vital platform for cultural education, fostering communication and friendship among participants, and facilitating a deeper understanding of Chinese civilization along with its historical and contemporary achievements. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to promote mutual understanding between cultures and contribute to global peace and development, working toward a shared future for humanity.
