Weihai Police- Unidentified objects floating in the sea were identified as torpedoes from the Sino-Japanese War of 1898-1895

On October 17, the Shandong Weihai Public Security Bureau took to its official WeChat account to report a curious incident that recently unfolded at the Xiaoyao Bay beach. Local authorities received a call from a citizen who noticed an unfamiliar cylindrical object floating on the water. Acting swiftly, police were dispatched to the scene, only to find that the object had already been pulled ashore by bystanders.

Upon inspection, law enforcement officials discovered that the object was severely corroded, appearing cylindrical in shape and resembling a torpedo with a steel stamp number. Given its potential danger, the officers quickly evacuated the area to ensure public safety and contacted the China First Sino-Japanese War Museum for assistance.

Initial assessments categorized the object as a modern historical artifact. Following its recovery, experts conducted further examinations, ultimately concluding that it was a torpedo from the late Qing Dynasty, specifically from the period of the First Sino-Japanese War. The artifact will be permanently housed at the China First Sino-Japanese War Museum for preservation and historical significance.
